Today is the 15th Anniversary of Play In A Book:

10 book titles published
25,000 books and workbooks sold
72 schools served
40 teaching artists hired
10 teaching artists currently working
12 different programs created
278 contracts performed
1,500 classrooms served

We want to thank all our school partners, our teaching artists, and most of all our students for helping us reach this birthday.

It was amazing to be visited in my home by a former student. Oluranti participated in Play In A Book at Brennemann in her 5th-8th grade years, 2013-2016. She told me she looked me up nearly 10 years later because she ran across one of our books and she wanted us to know how much Play In A Book meant to her. Now she works for the 46th ward. Wow. I've never had anything like this happen before and it reminded me that the work we do in Chicago Public Schools supporting literacy through drama really is making a difference.

Laura and I ran into a wayback Ojo Olumyiwa at the Ingenuity Fall Summit yesterday at Malcom X College. It was fun catching up.

It was on this day 14 years ago we picked up a galley of our first book “The Three City Goats Gruff” from the printer. We are currently finishing up editing on our 10th title.

So very proud of our filmmakers South Shore Fine Arts Academy for their participation in the The 90-Second Newbery Film Festival! Fine job, folks.

So proud of our South Shore Fine Arts Academy 5th - 7th students and their work on "The Graveyard Book" to be shown at The 90-Second Newbery Film Festival this Sunday. I want to thank art teacher Ms. O'Neil and dance teacher Ms. Mohammed for their collaboration.
