Play In A Book “Let’s Read!”

For those who wish to engage a young reader, this drama based approach can be an enlivening way to build phonological awareness, and improve reading comprehension and fluency. The Act It Read It Series from Play In A Book challenges the young reader in a fun, interactive manner that strengthens confidence while broadening comprehension.

Today is the 15th Anniversary of Play In A Book:

10 book titles published
25,000 books and workbooks sold
72 schools served
40 teaching artists hired
10 teaching artists currently working
12 different programs created
278 contracts performed
1,500 classrooms served

It was amazing to be visited in my home by a former student. Oluranti participated in Play In A Book at Brennemann in her 5th-8th grade years, 2013-2016. She told me she looked me up nearly 10 years later because she ran across one of our books and she wanted us to know how much Play In A Book meant to her. Now she works for the 46th ward. Wow. I've never had anything like this happen before and it reminded me that the work we do in Chicago Public Schools supporting literacy through drama really is making a difference.
