Today’s special? Mostaccioli with a side of career exploration!

Celebrating , culinary students at Prosser Career Academy - CPS rolled up their sleeves alongside special guest Chef Danielle Smith for a hands-on lesson on how to prepare and execute a large lunch service at scale!

Through the District’s Chef Council program, in partnership with CPS Nutrition Support Services and Aramark, our CTE culinary students connect classroom instruction with real-world culinary practices by learning alongside local chefs. These hands-on experiences allow students to apply what they learn in class, strengthen their technical skills, and develop the industry knowledge needed to prepare for future careers in the culinary field.

Aramark Student Nutrition’s Chef Council Program brings in local chefs into Chicago Public Schools’ (CPS) Career and Technical Education culinary classrooms.

This year, when Chef James Sanders visited a culinary classroom, he had expected to discuss his path to restaurant ownership.

However, a standout student, Kavion Turner-Winters took the initiative to ask pointed questions and followed up with Chef Sanders. His initiative landed him a summer job with Sanders at his restaurant, Sanders BBQ Supply Co., the Chicago barbecue restaurant The New York Times named one of the best in the country last year.
