Through a partnership between the UIC Greenhouse and the Field Museum’s Keller Science Action Center with Tiahui Chicago, about 1,000 marigolds were grown, ceremonially blessed, harvested and given to a range of community organizations. The flowers play a leading role in the Mexican day of remembrance and are used to decorate ofrendas, or altars, that people create to remember their departed family and friends.
