We’re excited to share that Kids First Chicago, Advance Illinois, and The Chicago Public Education Fund have been named finalists for the 2026 PIE Network Eddies for Best Collaboration, alongside Civic Federation.

This recognition celebrates a coalition that came together during a critical moment for Chicago Public Schools to advocate for a balanced FY26 budget that protected school budgets, avoided new borrowing, and preserved classroom resources for more than 316,000 students.

Each partner brought a distinct strength to the work – from fiscal and governance expertise to statewide policy advocacy and, through Kids First Chicago, parent education, bilingual engagement, public testimony, and direct community advocacy.

Special shoutout to the Illinois Network of Charter Schools for being named a Best Defense finalist and Robin Steans for being nominated for the Suzanne Kubach Network Weaver of the Year.

Congratulations to all of the 2026 PIE Network Eddies nominees and finalists. !We applaud the work of our many colleagues working to strengthen education in Chicago, Illinois, and across the country.

This summer, Amir and Maria joined the Kids First Chicago team and they didn’t just complete internships. They left their mark.

As our Communications & Development Intern and Policy & Community Engagement Intern, they brought fresh ideas, thoughtful questions, and a whole lot of heart to the work of advocating alongside Chicago families.

They wrapped up their summer by presenting their capstone projects, reflecting on what they learned and sharing work that will continue to make an impact beyond their time with us.

Amir and Maria, thank you for showing up, diving in, and helping us imagine what’s possible. We’re proud of all you accomplished and can’t wait to see where you take it next.

Este verano, Amir y Maria se unieron al equipo de Kids First Chicago, y no solo completaron sus pasantías. Dejaron su huella.

Como nuestros pasantes de Comunicaciones y Desarrollo, y de Políticas y Participación Comunitaria, respectivamente, aportaron ideas nuevas, preguntas importantes y muchísimo entusiasmo al trabajo de defender y apoyar a las familias de Chicago.

Was that K1C at the farm? Sure was.

It was a true boots-on-the-ground kind of day as we rolled up our sleeves and volunteered at . After a rewarding morning of getting our hands dirty, we enjoyed lunch at their Fresh Market, prepared by Chef Omar.

We can’t wait to come back and taste the fresh herbs growing in the garden bed we helped prepare! 😋
