In a paper for Cell Reports Physical Science, a multi-institutional team led by UIC engineer and Faculty Fellow, Meenesh Singh unveils the new process for green hydrogen production.
University of Illinois Chicago engineers have helped design a new method to make hydrogen gas from water using only solar power and agricultural waste, such as manure or husks. The method reduces the energy needed to extract hydrogen from water by 600%, creating new opportunities for sustainable, climate-friendly chemical production.

What an incredible and significant milestone in the history of not only the Honors College but UIC as a whole! 🌟 We, as a campus, recently celebrated the retirement of Stacie McCloud, Associate Dean of the Honors College, with Jay Mueller, Assistant Vice Chancellor and Chief of Staff in the UIC Office of Diversity, Equity, and Engagement.
Stacie's remarkable journey spans an impressive 32 years of dedicated service within the Honors College. From her start as an Honors student to staff, she has built what embodies the spirit and essence of the Honors College itself.

Spyros Kitsiou, associate professor of biomedical and health information sciences in the College of Applied Health Sciences, recently joined the GovCIO program HealthCast to talk about how mobile health devices can help research, and clinical care. "'Sometimes it feels like we’re playing a catch-up game because by the time we establish some of this preliminary evidence, that technology has evolved and requires sometimes additional testing,' said Kitsiou, who is also associate chief research information officer in the UIC Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research. 'This is a critical challenge in our field, which I think underlines the need for development of new, innovative study design methods to address this challenge.'" -UIC Today To read more, visit the link in our bio!

Did you know that UIC Honors College has a Star Wars connection? Next time you watch Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope and see the iconic briefing scene, keep in mind that the 3D animation of the Death Star trench where Luke launches his two proton torpedoes and saves the day was created by artists and scientists at UIC's Electronic Visualization Laboratory (EVL).
Founded in 1973 and directed by Thomas DeFanti (former Honors College Instructor and Faculty Fellow) and computer-visualization artist Daniel Sandin, the lab became renowned as an innovative, collaborative hub for tech engineers and computer-assisted artists. This attracted the attention of pioneer animator Larry Cuba, who was hired by George Lucas. Cuba's computer animations have been played at festivals and museums for years. After executing a contract to use the lab at UIC, Cuba moved to Chicago and slept in DeFanti's basement for around three months. Cuba received pieces of the Death Star in the mail throughout the work.
