Kids with dyslexia spend so much time hearing about what’s hard for them that it can be easy to forget to tell them what’s incredible about the way their brain works.

Yes, reading and spelling might be harder. Yes, they deserve the right support for those things. But they also deserve to know that thinking differently can be a strength. Your child should never walk away from school believing that struggling with reading means they aren’t smart. Please remind them just how capable their brain really is.

But the kid who has to find another way to solve the problem is also learning how to think differently. The kid who doesn’t fit perfectly into the traditional classroom isn’t necessarily the problem. Sometimes they just need people around them who understand how their brain works and know how to support it.

Your child’s struggles today do not determine what they’re capable of tomorrow. Give them the right support, keep reminding them what they’re good at, and don’t underestimate where that brain can take them.

A lot of kids can follow the steps for fractions without actually understanding what a fraction is.

That usually works… until the math gets harder.

Before worrying about procedures, make sure your child understands that a fraction is one number, that it represents a real quantity, and that the denominator is always tied to equal parts of the same whole.

That foundation matters way beyond fractions. Ratios, percents, rates, and algebra all build on it.
