Psychology has a place in business, too. The M.S. in Industrial-Organizational Psychology degree brings psychology, technology, and data analytics together to prepare the next generation of workplace leaders and human resources professionals.

The program gives students the tools to understand people at work, use data to inform HR decisions, design more inclusive systems, and tackle complex workplace challenges. After a decade in the finance industry, William Gogolak (Ph.D. MSC ’22) returned to school to pursue a doctorate at Stuart School of Business and prepare for a career in academia.

Before joining Stuart, Gogolak built a career in financial modeling and risk management at CME Group, Bain & Company, and CBIZ Private Equity Advisory. At Stuart, his doctoral work in management science and analytics strengthened his research skills and gave him experience that helped prepare him for life as a professor.

Gogolak went on to begin teaching finance at Carnegie Mellon University, where he continues to work diligently today. His story reflects the path from industry to academia and the role rigorous research and mentorship played along the way.

Independent Model Review Analyst, HSBC, was one of the early roles in Veronika Shestakova’s (BA/M.S. FIN ’18) career after graduating from Stuart School of Business.

As a student, Shestakova excelled academically while also taking on leadership roles through Stuart Investments and competing in the Zurich Enterprise Challenge, where her team placed among the top 20 globally. These experiences helped her develop the teamwork, critical thinking, leadership and project management skills that shaped her career.

After graduating, she began her career at Eurex Exchange before joining HSBC as an independent model review analyst in Chicago. She is now a senior risk management manager at Capital One, previously Discover, where she continues to build her expertise in risk management.

Outside of her professional work, Shestakova has shared her expertise at international conferences and through published articles covering topics such as artificial intelligence, the gig economy, and macroeconomic trends.
