TODAY's study group...
We will focus on the physiology of exercise, specifically delving into the relationship between resistance training and the menstrual cycle. We will spend the first part with a brief review of the role and effects of the hormones estrogen, progesterone, then we will go over recent research from Chapter 14: S*x Hormones, Menstrual Cycle and Resistance Exercise of S*x Hormones, Exercise and Women (2017). Finally, we would like us to discuss how we can implement this research into programs and training sessions.
NO FEE!
See you all Wed at 1pmCT

Today 1pm
We will be continuing our discussion about how metabolism affects and is affected by exercise. Our class will be considering the requirements and outcomes related to energy production during each of the exercise intensities previously discussed. This will be a full review, so nothing to prepare, just bring your brains!
Additionally, we will keep a camera open for Zoom available at this link:

Hi everyone,
This week Wednesday at 1pm will be resuming our discussion of endocrine glands and hormones. We will look specifically at hormonal response to exercise interventions. Last week some of you were assigned endocrine glands to review and perform a literature search for exercise interventions and hormonal response specific to that gland. If you did not receive an assignment, please still feel free to attend the group.
Here are the assignments:
Jonathan - Ovaries, Te**es, Heart, Kidney
Chris - Thyroid
Ryan K - Anterior Pituitary
Michelle - Posterior Pituitary
Michelle A - Adrenal Cortex
Brandon - Pancreas
Ryan F - Liver
Olivia - Parathyroid Glands
Each person will have the screen to discuss what they have found followed by Q&A. I'm sure this will be continued into future weeks since there is a lot of information to cover.
I look forward to seeing what everyone has found! See you all at 1pmCT Wednesday via this link:

Hi everyone,
This week, and next, we will be reviewing Chapter 4 in Essentials of Strength Training and Conditioning, Endocrine Responses to Resistance Training. This week we will discuss basic concepts of endocrinology, including what hormones are and how they interact with each other and target tissues, and try to learn how to explain the physiological roles of anabolic hormones. Next week we will describe hormonal responses to resistance exercise; and develop training programs that demonstrate an understanding of human endocrine responses.
Below is the text we will be referencing. Feel free to bring additional references to the group on Wed at 1pm.
Here is the Zoom link to the group. Hope to see you there. Always know that inviting others in on Wednesdays is encouraged. NSCA

Happy New Year all,
We are ready to kick off the New Year with PHP's Study Group! Previously we discussed different neurological conditions and how they relate to exercise. This week we will be expanding our view into the human brain with review of Anatomy and Physiology!
Homework: Find a website or app that you can use for seeing the different anatomical structures of the brain. There are many different ones, so look for one that is best for you!
See you all Wednesday at 1pm!
