The Idea Shop is hiring developers this summer!!
An Idea Shop Web App Developer will be responsible for: -Working with a team to develop student facing web applications written on the Flask framework for: -Management of safety training videos, appointments, and quizzes
-Prototyping equipment integration (power lockouts, equipment in-use dashboard, etc.)
-Support the maintenance of other existing web applications on Flask, mediaWiki, Laravel, and WordPress frameworks.
Candidates should meet all of the following criteria: -Proficiency in Python and Javascript
-Proficiency in relational databases: MariaDB, MySQL, or equivalent
- Moderate experience with Flask or django
-Some experience with WSGI application deployment
-Familiar with Bootstrap
-Familiar with G Suite authentication and web sessions
-Advanced linux / unix skills
-Ability to work well with a team :)
We are currently looking to hire 1-2 individuals for a combined 40 hours per week during Summer 2021.
In-person work at Idea Shop is strongly preferred.
Hourly rate commensurate with experience and skills.
Portfolio of relevant work experience recommended to apply.

The Idea Shop is hiring for the summer! Position is now live on Handshake.
We are seeking a student(s) to work on equipment safety training videos, which will be used as a training aid for the student community. Primary job responsibilities include:
-Compositional editing in Adobe Premiere Pro
-Some limited effects editing in Premiere Pro (color correction, element overlays, key frame timed effects)
Secondary responsibilities may include:
-Assist in video design (aesthetic design / video flow only, subject matter of the videos will be provided)
-Lead or assist in filming using Sony HXR-NX80 (individual is not required to be on camera)
-Recording and insertion of voice over tracks (individual is not required to be recorded)
Experience or skills required:
-Experience with video editing software. Premiere Pro experience is preferred.
Idea Shop is looking to hire 1-2 students for a combined 40 hours per week during Summer 2021. Work opportunity may continue into Fall semester dependent on the success of the summer semester. When submitting the application, a portfolio of past work is appreciated, but not required.

💥New Equipment Alert💥 Meet our new CNC router, the ShopSabre PRO408!
The ShopSabre PRO408 is one of the crown jewels in our shop repertoire, allowing students to quickly and accurately translate digital files into reality. CNC fabrication offers for precision and variability that would otherwise be difficult to attain with other fabrication tools, with the ability to handle a variety of materials like wood, composites, foam, and plastics.
Our new Shop Sabre offers the largest working area of any of our machines (48” x 96” x 12”, 4” improved z-height movement over our old machine) and automatic tool changes, enabling students to complete complex jobs more quickly and with less guesswork. She also wears a new fancy dust skirt that offers a drastic improvement over our previous machine’s skirt -- if you’ve ever had to clean up after a foam or MDF job you will greatly appreciate this new addition.
Our new equipment brought to you thanks to a generous donation from long-time Illinois Tech Board of Trustees member Ed Kaplan (ME ’65).

As midterm/final deadlines loom on the horizon, just a friendly reminder that you can Remote Submit a hand-fabrication job too! Just send us your drawings.
✏️ Hand-fab can often be faster or have a shorter queue than say laser cutting or 3D printing! We can also handle a wider range of materials (like this 4/4 poplar T arms for a student project). Send us an email and let's chat about your project!

We are excited to announce the arrival of four world-class pieces of equipment to the Idea Shop. Made possible by a generous gift from long-time Illinois Tech Board of Trustees member Ed Kaplan (ME ’65) the acquisition of these machines ushers in a new era of making for the shop, bringing literally 😉 cutting-edge fabrication technology to the Illinois Tech campus. These machines are now officially in operation and available for student use.
Here's glimpse of our new additions: a ShopSabre Pro 408 CNC router for large machining jobs, an Epilog Fusion Pro dual-source laser cutter for large-format cutting, a Stratasys F370 3D printer (FDM in various materials), and a Stratasys J55 3D printer (PolyJet technology for full-color and variable opacity printing).
