CENTRAL Y.M.C.A. COMMUNITY COLLEGE, CHICAGO, ILLINOIS 1969 – 1971
The Central Y.M.C.A. College was a two (2) year accredited college, located at 211 West Wacker Drive in Downtown Chicago. I give credit to this institution for putting my life back on track. In the late 1960’s – early 1970’s, the college had an “open door policy” where they would admit students without a high school diploma, and allow them to take college courses at the same time they would prepared you to take the General Equivalency exam (GED).
I was one of those fortunate persons that took advantage of this policy – I attended the college from the Fall of 1969 thru the Summer of 1971. While attending the college, I obtained my GED and accumulated enough college credit courses to transfer to Northern Illinois University in Dekalb, Illinois. I spent a year at NIU, and in the summer of 1972 I continue my studies at the University of Illinois where I received a degree in Elementary Education; in 1974 I unsuccessfully pursued a law degree at DePaul University Law School. Eventually I earned a Master Degree in Criminal Justice from the University of Illinois in Chicago. The rest is history! I believe that education definitely contributes positively in your pursue of life endeavors!
Did anyone else attended this college? Please share your stories!
