Whether you’re a student, a teacher, or a fan of the instrument, bring your guitar and join the music or attend as a listener. We’ll talk about practical strategies for daily practice, share solo pieces with one another, and read through some ensemble music together. New ensemble Lyyra looks set to reach a glittering place in choral music’s constellation – it was created by The VOCES8 Foundation to build support and visibility for upper voices and their potential. The group’s sound combines velvety richness alongside starlike brilliance. With a broad texture and exhilarating range of sound, the group’s members specialize in classical, jazz, pop, and folk music from diverse traditions and backgrounds. Lyyra is the only professional six-voice women’s a ca****la group in the US.

Larry & Joe were destined to make music together.

Larry Bellorín hails from Monagas, Venezuela and is a legend of Llanera music. Joe Troop is from North Carolina and is a GRAMMY-nominated bluegrass and oldtime musician. Larry was forced into exile and is an asylum seeker in North Carolina. Joe, after a decade in South America, got stranded back in his stomping grounds in the pandemic. Larry worked construction to make ends meet. Joe's acclaimed "latingrass" band Che Apalache was forced into hiatus, and he shifted into action working with asylum seeking migrants. Then Larry met Joe.

Currently based in the Triangle of North Carolina, both men are versatile multi-instrumentalists and singer-songwriters on a mission to show that music has no borders. As a duo they perform a fusion of Venezuelan and Appalachian folk music on harp, banjo, cuatro, fiddle, maracas, guitar, upright bass, and whatever else they decide to throw in the van. The program they offer features a distinct blend of their musical inheritances and traditions as well as storytelling about the ways that music and social movements coalesce.

We have had four great day camps already this summer at NEIU and the students have shown so much creativity! Musical Theater EsCape performed Aladdin kids, the Art In Engineering camp mastered the X tool, and Kid’s Crafting camp and ArtSmart painting camp created masterpieces! We have such amazing camp instructors! Special thanks to the NEIU Art Department, PTS Staff, and the NEIU Music and Dance department for all of their support.
