Happy Valentine's Day, Ramblers!

St. Valentine's Day advice from Pedro Arrupe, SJ, former superior general of the Society of Jesus (1907-1991). Actually, advice for every day.

When I was writing my book "The Jesuit Guide" I tried to track down the original source of this popular mediation, but couldn't find it. Finally, I asked Father Arrupe's great friend and longtime colleague Vincent O'Keefe, SJ, about its provenance. He smiled, because, as he later explained, he was often asked about this quote. It doesn't appear anywhere in Arrupe's official writings, so Father O'Keefe suspected that Arrupe said it at a conference or a retreat and someone wrote it down and circulated it. "And it's just the kind of thing he would say!" said Fr. O'Keefe.

Today is the anniversary of the death of the UCA Martyrs - the six Jesuits priests and two women who were murdered in El Salvador in 1989. Let us remember their legacy and remember all of those who are the victims of needless violence and hate.

Holy Martyrs of El Salvador, pray for us.

Today begins the first day of Hunger Week - follow Hunger Week - Loyola University Chicago for updates on events!

"O God, you entrusted to us the fruits of all creation so that we
might care for the earth and be nourished with its bounty.

You sent us your Son to share our very flesh and blood and to
teach us your Law of Love. Through His death and
resurrection, we have been formed into one human family.

Jesus showed great concern for those who had no food - even
transforming five loaves and two fish into a banquet that
served five thousand and many more.

We come before you, O God, conscious of our faults and
failures, but full of hope, to share food with all members in
this global family.

Through your wisdom, inspire leaders of government and of
business, as well as all the world's citizens, to find just, and
charitable solutions to end hunger by assuring that all people
enjoy the right to food.

Thus we pray, O God, that when we present ourselves for
Divine Judgment, we can proclaim ourselves as One Human
Family with Food for All." -Pope Francis

St. Peter Claver, Pray For Us!

How do you reconcile the world's problems with your own personal faith? St. Peter Claver, SJ realized that it was his relationship with Christ that nourished his spirit and gave him the courage to go on when so many problems surrounded his work. http://ow.ly/ARkt303Zu8W
