It's the start of the second week of Fall Session 1 classes 🎉👩‍🎨 Did you know that when you enroll in a class in the Textiles Department you have access to unlimited open studio time? You may use the equipment and tools that you have been trained on in your class. If you have taken a Textiles class within the past year, but are not currently enrolled you may rent open studio time for $10 per open studio session (pay the Textiles monitor when you arrive, extra fee to use dye supplies.) The Textiles Department at Lillstreet is sad to see one of our most active teachers Mél Phillips move from the Chicago area, even though we are so happy for her next adventure. This is your LAST CHANCE to take a class will before her big move. Spots still left for Sew Your Own Underwear! If you’ve taken First Time Sewing or have equivalent experience, you are in great shape for this fun class! As always, all gender expressions and body sizes are welcome and patterns can be adjusted for fit and style. Wether you rock your un**es or not, this is the perfect class to get familiar with knit fabrics and sewing with a serger. This 5-week class starts Sunday, April 11 1:30-4:30pm. We are so excited to announce our next visiting artist, SHENEQUA 🎉Join us on Friday, January 22 from 7–8 p.m. for an online evening with the Chicago-based textiles artist. Learn about her art practice, process, and vision. This Zoom event is FREE to our community! ⁠
⁠.
Using yarn, synthetic hair, fabric strips, and other miscellaneous fibers and materials, SHENEQUA creates stunning and meaningful woven pieces. She will take us into her studio to generously share her work with our community. Attendees are encouraged to work alongside her as she demonstrates one of her signature techniques.⁠

We are offering some new online classes made just for ages 13–18 this winter!⁠
⁠.
First up is Natural Dye Teens, beginning on Saturday, January 16. We'll uncover a wide range of natural dye techniques as you create beautiful and surprising fabric samples. We will explore colors and mordants on silk using scraps and extras from your kitchen. Learn shibori techniques, food safe mordanting, and the dynamic range and strength of color from dyes such as cochineal, onion skins, coffee grinds, avocado pits and peels. 🥑⁠

Congratulations to instructor Elnaz Javani on her current two person exhibition, "EXO" on view until January 30, 2021. The exhibition features recent work by Annette Hur and Elnaz, and is curated by Chicago artist and Devening Projects Gallery Associate Azadeh Gholizadeh. Elnaz will teach Online: First-time Stamp Printing on Fabric, beginning Tuesday, January 12. Check out her design feed for lovely images of her block printed patterns.
