In 2000, Englewood resident, composer, bandleader, and internationally renowned artist, Ernest “Khabeer” Dawkins created The Englewood Jazz Festival to highlight the rich cultural heritage of Englewood and to work with other organizations to increase Englewood’s own musical resources. Ernest Dawkins’ New Horizons Redux took the stage with a multigenerational ensemble featuring Elio Wijaya, Jamal Damien, Senya Rogers Kaufman, Ethan Philion, Micah Collier, and Frank Morrison, with special guests Marquis Hill, Kevin King, and Isaiah Spencer. From the dressing room to the spotlight, the music carried Chicago’s creative tradition forward.
