We would love to introduce you to our August Wizard of the Month - Orn Backstrom!

Orn is an outstanding instructor from Illinois with a true passion for both learning and teaching. Before joining Chess Wizards, he served as an active-duty Captain in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and built a diverse career spanning construction, architecture, and publishing.

In his free time you’ll likely find him out on the golf course or enjoying a peaceful day kayaking.

Did you know that just 15–20 minutes of chess practice a few times a week can help keep your child's skills sharp over the summer?

Practice doesn't have to be formal! Try:
✨Solving a few chess puzzles together
✨Playing one friendly game after dinner
✨Teaching a grandparent or sibling how the pieces move

A little consistency goes a long way. Have fun, celebrate effort, and enjoy spending time together around the chessboard!
