How do biases affect policy-making in mental health policy?
In BEPP's upcoming event, Rachel Bhagwat, Director of Policy at NAMI Chicago and a Harris alumna, will discuss existing policy responses to mental health issues in the context of criminal justice and university campuses, as well as how biases among policy-makers can impact mental health policy.

How does behavioral science translate from academia to practice?
To understand how policy makers, governments, corporates and businesses harness the behavioral sciences, Behavioral Economics and Public Policy HSO is hosting a Practitioners’ Roundtable with two key behavioral science practitioners doing exciting work.
Our first speaker, Lalo Motiño is a Senior Associate at Ideas42 and specializes in healthcare policy with a focus on family planning. Our second speaker is Karl Purcell, a behavioral scientist at Irrational Labs, and in the past has led the adoption of behavioral science insights by the Irish government.
This will be an amazing opportunity for behavioral science enthusiasts to interact with our speakers, understand their work, learn more about their organizations, and future career paths in the field.

Behavioral Economics and Public Policy HSO (BEPP) and OUTPolitik are excited to invite you to our upcoming event ‘Conversations around Gender and Sexuality Biases’ with Lindsay Palmer, a (Dual PhD candidate in Psychology and Women’s Studies, Penn State College of Liberal Arts) and Aliya Bean (a recent Harris graduate and Consultant at Manatt Health Strategies) who will speak in dialogue on biases faced by the LGBTQ+ community, with a particular focus on how these issues intersect with policy on local and national levels.
You will also have an opportunity to learn more about OUTPolitik, which is in the middle of recruiting a board that will be instrumental in creating a queer-friendly community at Harris.

Joshua Dean researches the interaction of poverty and cognition using primarily randomized controlled trials. He is interested in how the conditions of poverty shape cognitive development by affecting human capital investment, how environments of poverty impede cognition, and how cognitive processes may impede poverty alleviation. Dean’s research has been published in Science and the AEA Papers and Proceedings.
Dean earned a PhD in economics from Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Additionally, he received a BS in economics and a BA mathematics and political science, both from the University of Kansas.

Ayelet Fishbach studies social psychology, management and consumer behavior. She is an expert on motivation and decision making. She has presented her research all over the world.
Fishbach has been published in many psychology and marketing journals, including the Journal of Consumer Research, the Journal of Marketing Research, Psychological Science, and the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology. She is on the editorial board of several journals, including the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology and the Journal of Consumer Research. Her research is regularly featured in the media, including WSJ, CNN, Chicago Tribune, NPR and was selected to be featured in the New York Times ‘Annual Years in Ideas.’

Dr. Shereen Chaudhry is a scholar of human judgment and decision-making (JDM), with education and research training at the intersection of psychology, economics, and neuroscience. Her research explores basic psychological questions by building on insights and using methodologies from multiple disciplines. Her deepest curiosity is regarding the origins and often-overlooked purpose of everyday observed behavior. In particular, she aims to better understand how responsibility attributions influence interpersonal impressions and conflict.
