Check out this interesting article that quotes the book “The Path to Purpose” author William Damon as saying that a sense of purpose is “the long term number one motivator in life.” Instilling a sense of purpose into each student by teaching us how our education addresses global issues is what sets GCE Lab School apart from traditional high schools. As we’re seeing in politics these days, one does not have to be an amazing orator in order to run a nation. However with the guiding question ‘How is a nation argued into being?’ GCE Lab School students learned how that used to be the case, and how (we hope!) it will be again. By focusing on the birth of the United States, and learning the structure and language of argument, students explore the life of the nation as a powerful idea–one which was carefully and logically crafted, yet continues to be challenged and transformed.
