A poem by
“I woke again, mama…
It was dark and the room felt dark, so I called out and waited.
And sure enough, your footsteps came through the darkness, followed by your whispers and arms.
You scooped me up and I rested my cheek against your neck, breathing in. Softness and warmth and home, all in one breath.
I didn’t need to cry, mama. There in my favorite spot, so I sighed deep instead.
‘Mama’s here, mama’s here,’ your whispers soothed me. And I wanted to answer, ‘Thank you, thank you.’
But instead of words, I sighed even deeper and sank heavy into your skin, letting your soothing wash over me as I drifted back off to sleep.
And amid the quiet and the darkness, I hoped that you’d feel my ‘thank you’, washing over you, too.”
To all you mamas in the thick of it, you’re doing amazing. And check out for poems that will give you all the feels ❤️
