Let Freedom RING

I woke up at 2 am to script these Works of Words after finally resting my inspired mind, body & soul from watching the many speeches during the DNC ongoing love fest. Like Oprah, I'm an (unregistered) Independent. I have no loyalty to the Red or the Blue. I have a love for policies that place my views and dreams at the top of my life's wish list.

Therefore, in this election, I can only have one answer to a (side) that wants to ban books. NO VOTE! See, I not only love books, but I believe books are the gateway to people's intellect, maturity, and growth. When my daughter (Karly) was a small child, we roamed libraries and bookstores. Karly first rejected the notion of books over games, but she eventually fell victim to loving books. Today, she loves to read. It has been a joy to see her intellectual capacity explode.

The choice for President has been confirmed when it's between banning books or letting my people read!
Let Freedom RING take special meaning after watching the DNC the last three days. Today is the grand finale. The DNC renewed my passion for greatness and the pursuit of excellence. Watching these celebrated personalities parade across the stage was joyously motivating. See, I look for inspiration everywhere.

Seeing the United Center filled with every race of people imaginable cheering together and representing one common cause gave me additional hope. America has come a long freakin' way... Thank, God! Witnessing so many successful people of color grace the DNC stage reminded me that all things are possible! Seeing America's 'perfect union' on display reignited my desire to have a more understanding heart as well as wanting to expose the unwanted racism that still exists in this country.

See, I have not lost the reality that bigotry is alive and well. But what I prefer to acknowledge is that collectively, as a nation of immigrants and slaves, we've performed much better than I could've imagined over the last few decades. And for that, I'm grateful. To see my racial peers coming from all walks of life and being extremely accomplished was refreshing. It says to me... And hopefully, others with dreams and aspirations, that ANYTHING is possible! Seeing celebrities and personalities of all races share their stories of tragedies and triumphs made me feel liberated.

I've always lived FREE. I've never felt the invisible shaggles around my neck, hands, and feet. I've never allowed prejudice to intrude on my journey toward greatness. However, knowing that many in my community have been mentally abused and beaten down by America's past atrocities and current acts of injustice, I hope they find refuge to heal. I'm here to express: Stand up and belong. Stand up and claim your FREEDOM. Shout to the _Mountain Top... Today and every day... Let Freedom RING!

Carl West expressed: "On Monday, June 3rd, the iconic and legendary Dr. Conrad Worrill was saluted by many within his Black Power Movement & Community Activism circle, as June 3rd highlighted the anniversary of his untimely death. He's missed tremendously. His mentorship, leadership, and guidance were unmeasurable during my time with him. He was the person who insisted I become the Chairman of the Black United Fund of Illinois (BUFI) and he guided that decision with the board. Continue to rest in peace. And I hope I'm living in your grace and spirit, my good brother in the struggle!"

Who Will Help Guide Them

In my closing years as an innovative entrepreneur/businessman and community servant, I've completed most of my desired professional dreams and objectives. I have fallen short on a few ambitions but as Jay-Z states: "You have to learn to live with regrets!" Those regrets are painful, but I have accepted those few realities... One of those desired ambitions was to finish the long overdue first book of my prophetic Works of Words. This book has taken nearly ten years. But its premise is right on target based on the continued landscape of my city (Chicago) and the world. I can finally share the book cover design. Above is the cover art. A book launch and tour are being planned. Here are snippets from select sections of The Support System: Who Will Help Guide Them... The Power of Mentoring!

FRAMING THE NARRATIVE: "Framing the narrative of these Works of Words was very important. It helped decide on the cover's strong image and the mahogany frame surrounding the photo like an award-winning Picasso. That's why it's important to frame the perfect narrative." - C.D.W.

Book Overview: Three Pillars of Effective Mentoring: Three major components of effective and concerned mentoring. The Support System will deliver C. Dwayne West’s ideas of what those three direct and indirect components are when helping to guide and transform young lives that matter:

1). Finding Their Power Source (Discovering Themselves)
2). Igniting Their Spark (Parents)
3). Feeding Their Power Source (The Village)

Author's Brief BIO: Growing up in Chicago’s Chatham neighborhood, his parents were working-class people from Jackson, Mississippi who dictated a somewhat strict household with his three other siblings. As the CEO of MG Media, West has been in the media and marketing business for over twenty years. He’s the Chairman of the Board of the Black United Fund of Illinois (BUFI). Dwayne founded the Leadership Initiative (LI), an organization training young Black boys, ages 14 - 18, to focus on Leadership, Critical Thinking & Entrepreneurial Skills. He co-founded the VOTE 2 Live! Initiative. West also founded the Next Generation Leadership Council (NGLC) to identify, recruit, and assist emerging leaders in Politics, Business, Community Service & Education.

Author's Prophetic Thoughts on Mentorship: "From as far back as I can remember, I’ve had people who have guided me through my life’s journey. Their much-needed compassion and time have been priceless. Of course, during those early years, I didn’t know what impact they would have on my life as I rose from the concrete jungles of urban America. This book is one of my platforms to share my Prophetic Thoughts on the importance and the power of mentoring. I hope these upcoming Works of Words help to guide you and others!" - C.D.W.
