I seek to cultivate my students’ creative expression through active participation in authentic and meaningful language, adapted to their particular needs and proficiency levels. I offer small group, private, and corporate instruction to both children and adults. Adult evening classes are hosted at Pizzeria Serio, in Lakeview. This open space and relaxed environment is conducive to an actual 'tertu
lia,' a beautiful Spanish tradition to socialize in a public place, have a drink, and engage in interesting conversation. There is plenty of information online, but NO TEXTBOOKS in class—just short stories and lots of fun! In other words, we will not be using a grammar-translation method. :) My instruction is based on a contextualized, narrative approach in combination with TPR (Total Physical Response) and TPRS (Teaching Proficiency through Reading and Storytelling). Small group sessions meet once a week for an hour and a half, over a period of 8 weeks. Speak Spanish FOR LIFE Con María Luisa. SPANISH FOR CHILDREN
Teaching Spanish to young children is truly a magical experience. Their natural ability to learn through storytelling, role-playing, and self-discovery makes each lesson an opportunity to engage their intellect, maximize their communication skills, and reinforce their school learning.
“Fun with a Purpose”—HIGHLIGHTS’ magazine trademark—captures my teaching philosophy. Classes generally meet at a nearby library or bookstore, where we can count on additional resources. Other venues are also possible, especially in the summer. Whereas you are looking for a few lessons as you prepare for a trip or for a longer arrangement towards greater language proficiency, I am confident that your children will enjoy learning Spanish Con María Luisa.
