Chicago Mosaic — Big Shoulders Books A sword, a grandmother’s shawl, a Rolex watch, a cow-shaped cream pitcher, a 2008 gold Toyota Corolla. The stories of these objects—and others—are told within this volume. They are the stories of objects left, lost, or kept. Together, they compose a mosaic of Chicago immigration.

Around 900 years ago, a Maya scribe made Códice Maya de México—the oldest book of the Americas, and one of only four surviving Maya manuscripts that predate the arrival of Europeans.
The sacred book tracked and predicted the complex movements of the planet Venus and is a remarkable testament to the complexity of Indigenous astronomy.
Códice Maya de México is on display in the US for the first time in 50 years. Come visit it at the Getty Center through January 15, 2023.
