I Am Project Chicago

I Am Project Chicago I AM is the ultimate leadership and life skills laboratory for elementary and high school students. The Need For A New Approach. Even communicate clearly?

College-bound…but are they college ready? There are many theories about how to prepare our students for the world ahead. More pressure has been applied to teachers and school districts
than ever before to produce results in regards to student achievement. Many aggressive measures have been implemented to ensure that schools meet state standards, produce higher grade point averages, ACT Scores, and

college acceptance rates, yet many schools are still failing
when it comes to preparing students with the knowledge and skills they need to
maintain lifelong success. Schools focus on getting our students into college but what happens after that? Will our students leave elementary and high-school with skills they need to continue moving forward in life? Will students be able
to achieve the goals they set for themselves to accomplish? Will students be able to manage themselves under pressure? These are the skills that our students need to have before they can have an
opportunity to experience all that life has to offer them. Due to this educational gap, many of our students find themselves disengaged from the
learning process and eventually lead unproductive lifestyles. We must do a better job of helping our students increase their social and emotional
competencies in order for them to receive, and actually build upon, what they are being taught academically and in life. Students need the opportunity to study and learn about themselves and others just as much as they need to study
and focus on their academics. Students need supportive spaces where they feel
safe enough to fail...so that they can achieve. In addressing the education gap, you are either a part of the problem or the solution. I AM is a solution.

Where I'm from

I am from that bike in the basement.
I am from the brainiacs and the Braves.
I am from sunshine people in my family, laughing and always smiling.
The smell of flowers.
Hot greens and fried chicken.
I am from being told be a leader and not a follower.
I am from the changes around me.
I am from the buildings of the projects, 16 stories high, cornbread and ribs waiting to be eaten.
I am from the Windy City.
I am from the I love you and the I'm sorry.
I am from the church that praises and prays to the powerful God Almighty.
I am from the music of Michael Jackson.
I am from neat clothes and dirty footwear.
I am from loud mouths and dull bricks.
I am from stripes and stars.
I am from blood and Band-Aids.
From Uno, monopoly and more games every Sunday night.
From going to the laundry mat on Chicago Avenue.
From the house on Congress and Lotis.
I am from taking pictures with my loved ones.
From my favorite book, the skin I'm in.
I am from the smell of my mother's beans.
I am from crying at night.
I am from home where everybody lives.
