Vietnam veteran Richard Klopp swapped out the U.S. and POW/MIA flags at the Jefferson Park Veterans Monument on Tuesday in preparation for the Memorial Day Flag Raising ceremony at noon Monday, May 29, at the monument at Milwaukee and Higgins avenues in Jefferson Park. In addition to remembering the meaning of Memorial Day, the event is also part of a community outreach called Hands Across Chicago with the CPD 16th District CAPS office and area churches. The Jefferson Park Chamber will hold its annual 9/11 memorial ceremony at 8:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 8, at the veterans memorial at Milwaukee and Higgins avenues. The American Legion Billy Caldwell Post 806 and cadets from the Rickover Naval Academy will be participating in the ceremony. Afterwards, there will be a brief meeting and networking inside the Jefferson Park fieldhouse, 4822 N. Long Ave.
