Drs. Armin Pashaeimofrad and Emily Drwiega created a new continuing education program for the Society of Infectious Diseases Pharmacists (SIDP), “Journal Club 2026 #1 – Two Shots and Out: Is Dalbavancin Ready for the Big Leagues in S. aureus Bacteremia?”
The program explores the use of dalbavancin for S. aureus bacteremia and the emerging evidence surrounding its role in clinical practice.

Drs. Scott Benken and Jamie Benken, along with former UIC resident Dr. Richard Ramos, recently published research examining ideal body weight-based dosing of antithymocyte globulin induction in kidney transplant recipients with and without obesity. Their study evaluated its impact on absolute lymphocyte count depletion, contributing to ongoing efforts to optimize immunosuppressive therapy following kidney transplantation.

Dr. Zane Elfessi and colleagues recently published a case report examining the concurrent presentation of diabetic ketoacidosis and tumor lysis syndrome. The report highlights the complexities of managing two serious metabolic emergencies occurring simultaneously and the importance of recognizing overlapping clinical presentations in acute care.

Dr. Daphne Smith Marsh has been appointed as a member of the American College of Clinical Pharmacy (ACCP) Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility Committee. In addition to her continued commitment to the DEIA committee, Dr. Smith Marsh serves as the ACCP Health Equity Practice and Research Network (PRN) Programming Chair-Elect, furthering her involvement in efforts to advance health equity within the clinical pharmacy profession.

Dr. Benito Valdepenas and colleagues recently published research examining the mechanisms and factors that contribute to cytomegalovirus (CMV) reactivation following kidney transplantation. Their work provides insights into the complex biological processes involved in CMV reactivation and may help inform approaches to managing this important complication in kidney transplant recipients.
