With very heavy hearts, on June 16, 2023, the Board of Directors of GCE Lab School made the decision to close the school permanently.

With current economic factors influencing donations, enrollment, tuition revenue, and operating costs, GCE has experienced an unfortunate and untenable financial position. Under these circumstances and with funding options exhausted, the Board did not see a viable solution that would ensure all of our students receive a quality high school experience.

GCE was a special place that celebrated each student for who they are and helped each live into their best self. We have many stories of unbelievable transformation. We hope you all continue to carry the spark of curiosity, your belief that all voices matter in our pursuit of peace, and the knowledge that you have the power to help your communities and our world become a better place for all.

The Drama class at GCE situates the study of theater in issues of equity and social justice. Who better to help bring together these important themes with the art of storytelling than Golden Globe winner, playwright, educator, activist, and actress Regina Taylor ? Regina was on campus to share with students her path from a young black woman in the South to the many roles on the big and small screens that explored issues of race and gender and how those issues affect life on and off the screen. Everyone should go learn more about Regina’s projects right now: https://gcelab.school/3NxoDmX.

Sometimes hands-on learning means getting your hands dirty. As part of GCE"s Global Resources sequence, students in the Food class study ecology, chemistry, and genetics in order to understand the food cycle. Today, we're testing nutrients in soil to see how it all begins.

is coming to an end, but we must continue to actively think about our planet and how we can protect it every day. Climate change is a long-term problem that requires immediate action. We must embrace the small efforts that affect global change together. To quote the GCE Environmentalist Club, "Nature is all we are." 🌎💚

Who Am I? is a 9th-grade humanities class in GCE Lab School's Global Context series.

From the Teacher:
This specific project was created for students to imagine what a better world might be for their identity. I think giving students an opportunity to create visual models elevates the student's writing ability. They're more invested in the writing because of their visual representation of it. The students are challenged with grappling and understanding a multiplicity of identities, including their own.

Guiding Question:
How will I investigate my Self to know who I am?

Course Description:
The Who Am I? Course is a journey into your Self, your beliefs, origins, fears, and hopes— pursued through philosophical discussions, self-reflections, historical investigations, and diverse field experiences. Specifically, the course challenges your perceptions of Truth, Memory, Doubt, and Belief.
