Catherine Cook was thrilled to host and co-facilitate the Institute for Social and Emotional Learning (IFSEL) Restorative Practices Workshop this week! Educators from around the country (including Cook faculty) came together to build proactive SEL skills, develop strategies to interrupt and de-escalate harmful situations, learn and practice facilitating restorative circles, and create cultures of belonging in their own schools. Congratulations to recent Cook graduate Sara Tantleff on her amazing achievements at National History Day! Sara traveled to the University of Maryland to represent the state of Illinois with her website, "Driving Reform: Ralph Nader's Auto Safety Revolution." She earned 4th place in the Junior Individual Website category out of 1,695 projects as well as the Outstanding Affiliate Award, which means Sara's website was the very best project from Illinois across all categories of the competition. Amazing work, Sara! We're so proud of you!

🌱📷 Our 1st Graders are bursting with curiosity as they get a closer look at a hatching caterpillar egg. Our Curriculum Specialist, Peg Keiner, has been piloting a macro photography experience in some Cook classrooms where students take charge in inspecting and photographing what they can't see with a naked eye. Our 1st Graders share their wonders and hypotheses about the caterpillar egg, interacting with the camera, and the projected image.

🎶 This Saturday our community had a blast at the School’s Out Extravaganza: COOK-CHELLA! Families came to celebrate the end of the school year with live music, festive hairdos, temporary tattoos, a climbing wall, bounce houses, and music festival themed activities.
