🐛🦋Witnessing the butterfly lifecycle is a magical event for our preschool friends each year! Our Flowers carefully observed their caterpillars, making daily observations of their growth and movement. They were fascinated by the transformation of caterpillar to chrysalis, then waited so patiently for the emergence of their butterflies! ✨

It has been amazing to observe the hard work taking place in the block area of our Flowers room this year! Structures are being built with great detail and intention in this special area of the classroom. Skills such as planning, problem solving, and collaborating with others are in focus each day!

We particularly love our wooden unit blocks as they invite mathematical skill development (measurement, spatial concepts, and shape knowledge!) Adding ramps, arches, and tunnels to our structures integrates physical science concepts (force, motion!)

Our Sprouts had so much fun with their recent “all about my body” unit! One of their highlights was washing baby dolls in the sensory table. 🧼🧽Sprouts loved gently scrubbing their babies with sponges and pouring water over them as teachers highlighted different body parts and what they do! Sprouts also enjoyed exploring their feet 🦶and all of the sensory input they receive from this part of their body as they walked across a sensory trail made from beans, sea salt, pasta, and oats!

Exploring and celebrating different cultures in our early childhood classrooms is an essential part of our curriculum. Building community and an inclusive mindset begins in infancy! In celebration of Black History Month, our Seedlings explored the beautiful colors, prints, and textures of Ankara fabric squares brought in by teachers. Our older Seedlings were then invited to experiment with similar colors of paint and a sand sieve to create their own beautiful prints!

🎶What a treat it was to have Ms. Mayra join us twice a week throughout December to engage our friends with music! Our preschoolers had a blast learning and practicing “Jingle Bells” and “Feliz Navidad” as they prepared to perform these songs for our younger classrooms. What a joyful way to begin our holiday break! ❤️💚

🎃Our little pumpkins have been exploring pumpkins the past few weeks! Our younger friends bravely participated in new sensory experiences as they explored the exterior and interior of pumpkins and took in new smells. Our older friends set up a science investigation station as they learned about the lifecycle of a pumpkin, compared the physical features of various gourds, and documented their findings. All rooms enjoyed using pumpkins as canvases for their art!
