For our last day of Staff Week we created spice sachets for Havdallah. Havdallah, a ritual that marks the symbolic end of Shabbat and the transition into the new week. It engages all five senses—sight, smell, taste, hearing, and speech—to ease the departure of the Sabbath. Even though Shabbat starts this evening, we are celebrating our week of being together as a staff and getting ready for the start of the new school year together.

Elliott Vahey will be the 3rd/4th grade general studies assistant teacher. Elliott shares that “outside of teaching, I enjoy anything and everything in nature, including hiking, riding my bike along the Lakefront trail, and reading a good book in a park. I’m excited to join the Akiba team!”

Welcome BACK to Akiba!

David Vadeboncœur joined our staff mid-year last school year as a classroom aide in the 1st/2nd grade classroom. David will be the Artist-in-Residence (AIR) Facilitator to shepherd the program, our K-8 students, and the teaching artists throughout the year. 🟢 Green: Go for it!

How does this help teachers prepare for the new school year?

Our students come from different places, families, cultures, and experiences. They’ve all had different summers and will each respond to change in their own way.

A simple reminder: **every child is unique, and understanding their comfort level helps us meet them where they are.**
