Frequency, groupings, timing, etc. You asked about how I set up group classes in my studio.

And what do YOU do that works?! Comment below!

Not all observations are run the same. How do you handle observations in YOUR studio, and do you ever change it up?

Sometimes learning doesn't fit precisely into 60 minutes. What do I do?
Thoughts, ideas, and reasoning for occasionally ending a lesson early.

When we are working on a bunch of repertoire at a time, we have the luxury of being able to layer skills, which leads to more lasting learning and the ability of students to translate a skill to another piece.

Also, you'd think after all these years that I would be able to keep my head in a frame!

We show up with a plan. A good one! A plan steeped in thoughtful, coherent, and research based pedagogy. And then our student shows up in a chaotic, distracted, fidgety, talkative mood and somehow we never get around to the plan. I'm what instance is it beneficial to follow a student's lead, and when should we redirect?

If you couldn't attend the SAA or MTNA conferences this spring, I'm happy to share what I learned! While I definitely didn't go to everything, (or even half) I encountered some excellent thinkers and generous presenters.

Comment or message me if you want more details on specific presenters and their work.

One of the best parts of conference attendance is the ideas we bring WITH us, not just what we receive. If you've ever thought of sharing your ideas or expertise, I'd love to hear what you're working on and encourage you to present and share!

I'm feeling so inspired after today’s Zoom meeting with the Suzuki Training Committee! What an incredible group of educators—thoughtful, creative, generous—working together to help teachers and students thrive at every level.

There are so many exciting things in motion right now:

* A pilot program to make the Unit 1 audition process more accessible
* Three new Certificates of Achievement to support teachers at all stages of their journey
* Big-picture thinking about what excellent Suzuki teaching looks like in private studios, early childhood settings, colleges, online lessons—and beyond

I’m so grateful to be part of this community—one that blends tradition and innovation, and sees growth as a joyful, lifelong pursuit.

And speaking of growth... I’ll be offering a Teaching Strategies course this spring—just one Tuesday morning a month, for four months. If you’re working toward one of the new certificates or simply want to reflect on your teaching in a supportive space, I’d love to have you.

Studio recitals, for me, mean tiptoes, deep squats, whispers, warning looks, and bright smiles. Oh, and music!
