Today's event—our final food distribution event of 2020—was truly a community effort!

Thanks to funds raised through a beautiful Empty Bowl collaboration with artist Lan Tuazon, GnarWare Workshop in Pilsen, and McKinley Park Mutual Aid (MKPMA), our group was able to support the purchasing, assembly, and delivery of 144 (overflowing!) bags of produce and non-perishables around our broader community. We are still reeling in gratitude from the experience, and have so many additional partners and community members to thank.

Thanks to our local Cermak Fresh Market for giving us a generous discount to help us serve even more local families than we originally anticipated! Thanks to Namaste Charter School for opening their building to us for our assembling! Thanks to the dozen volunteers (all ages!) who got up early to put together these bags! Thanks to the even larger number of volunteers who delivered these bags straight to residents' doors, both in McKinley Park and elsewhere on the South and Southwest Side!

And the most thanks to the local residents and families who welcomed these ingredients into their homes. We are excited for the many delicious meals you will prepare with them as we count down to 2021.

Today was a big day for Namaste! It was Big Apple Crunch Day, an annual celebration of fresh, local apples on the second Thursday of October during National Farm to School Month.

AND it was announced that Namaste was being recognized as one of ‘s healthiest schools in the nation!! We received special distinction in the areas of Family & Community Engagement, Strengthening Social-Emotional Health & Learning, Improving Nutrition & Food Access, and Bolstering Physical Education & Activity (plus four others!). We are honored!
