This panel discussion will focus upon the erosion of democratic institutions and the rise of oligarchy that has followed in the wake of unprecedented economic inequality. The panel will address elite efforts to entrench themselves politically as well as economically, including the consequences of such efforts in terms of human development. The panel will focus upon the specific context of election 2020 and the uncertainty it is creating. The subversion of democracy and the law governing our democracy naturally holds many costs, and each panelist will address such costs. Each panelist will also seek to articulate some mechanism for a path forward.

ELECTION PROTECTION, VOLUNTEERS STILL NEEDED
Volunteers provide voter information, document problems encountered when voting, and work with partners and volunteers to identify and remove barriers to voting. Election Protection focuses on the voter—not on behalf of any specific candidate in a specific political race—and provides guidance, information and help to any American, regardless of their voting choices.

Election Protection—led by the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law—is the nation’s largest nonpartisan voter protection coalition. Through the 866-OUR-VOTE hotline and our voter assistance field program, Election Protection helps ensure eligible voters are able to participate in our democracy while collecting data for meaningful reform so that our elections are free, fair and accessible.

Election Protection is currently recruiting volunteers in a number of states across the country to help voters in 2020. Please note that they recruit volunteers in the states where they live and cannot support deployment to other states.
