The Couple and Family Therapy Department at Adler University in Chicago offers a COAMFTE-accredited master’s degree and PhD. Our master’s program is a two year, full time program of 60 credits. Our MCFT (http://www.adler.edu/page/areas-of-study/chicago/couple-family-therapy/overview) students do coursework as well as a non-clinical Social Justice practicum in their first year and a lighter load of

coursework as well as a clinical practicum in their second year. We do not require a thesis, but we do have a qualifying exam that simulates the licensure exam. Students completing this program are eligible for licensure as a Marriage and Family Therapy (LMFT) in the State of Illinois. Our PhD program "CFTD” (http://www.adler.edu/page/areas-of-study/chicago/phd-in-couple--family-therapy/overview), can be done full time in four years with seven years to complete. Coursework is two years with clinical practicum and a qualifying exam. Third and fourth years include a one year full time internship and completion of a dissertation. If you are a person who has already completed a clinical master’s degree but are interested in gaining additional skills and specialty working with systems, then we encourage you to consider our certificate program (http://www.adler.edu/page/areas-of-study/chicago/certificate-programs/areas-of-study/marriage--family-therapy-certificate).
