Harold Washington College's Transfer Center is located in room 203. Ellen Goldberg is the Transfer Center Director. We reserve the right to remove these posts.

Are you a student who would like to find a way to be part of an awesome community at HWC? Do you plan to graduate from HWC and then transfer to your new dream school? Would you benefit from having mentors? TRIO is a way to make a big campus seem smaller. We are looking for 160 Rockstar Students!

Alumni can tag the students in this post or share this with them!

Rockstar current students can use the following link to the TRIO SSS Application. Students can fill the application out and email it to [email protected]. (Please download the form to fill it out.)

Faculty, Advisors, and staff can nominate students with this form. Staff/Faculty TRIO Referral Form and a team member will follow up.

This Transfer Tuesday post goes out to Matthew Griffith, a Harold Washington College Rockstar! Matthew graduated from HWC with his Associate in General Studies in Summer 2019 and transferred to the The University of Chicago in Fall 2019 to major in Math and to minor in Economics! Matthew transferred as a winner of the prestigious Veteran's POSSE Foundation Scholarship and was a awarded a full-ride to attend the University of Chicago!

He was a leader on campus at HWC as a member of the Phi Theta Kappa Mu Pi Chapter and as a Presidential Scholar. He also was extremely active student in the Veteran's Office.

Shout out to Delilah Hernandez, a Harold Washington College Rockstar, who graduated from HWC in Spring 2020 and transferred to Cornell University to study Development Sociology! Way to go, Delilah! You rock and inspire!

This Transfer Tuesday post goes out to Delilah Hernandez, a Harold Washington College Rockstar! Delilah graduated from Harold Washington College with her Associate of Arts in Spring 2020 and transferred to Cornell University this Fall 2020 to study Development Sociology with very generous funding!

Delilah was a leader on campus as the Vice President of the Harold Washington College SGA (SGA), Senator of SGA, Treasurer of the STEM Club, member of the World Language Club, member of the Phi Theta Kappa Mu Pi Chapter, and participant in the Transfer Leadership Class that is hosted by the HWC Transfer Center! She was one of the winners of the Local 1600 Union Albert Soglin Scholarship. She was also a leader in the community as a participant in the Exploring Transfer Program at Vassar College.

When asked to whom she owes her success at Harold Washington College, she gave shout outs to her Rockstar Advisor, Rashaan Russell, Aja Humphreys (Director of Student Activities), Stephen Burnett (History), Marcela Bernal-Munera (Biology), Red Washburn (Vassar Program), Kiara Balleza (Secretary of SGA), Marnee Ochoa (President of SGA), Ellen Goldberg, (Transfer Center Director) and to her wonderful mom.

When asked what inspirational words of wisdom she would give future HWC Rockstars, she said, "Let your curiosity lead you through all your resources at HWC. Let is allow you to explore the world!"

Shout out to Mya Bowdry, a Harold Washington College Rockstar, who is transferring to Carnegie Mellon University to major in Business Administration with a concentration in Human Resources Management! YAY!

This Transfer Tuesday post goes out to Mya Bowdry, a Harold Washington College Rockstar! Mya graduated from HWC in Spring 2020 with her Associate of Arts Degree and will be transferring to Carnegie Mellon University to major in Business Administration with a concentration in Human Resources Management.

She was a leader on campus at HWC as a member of the Phi Theta Kappa Mu Pi Chapter and as a One Million Degrees (OMD) Scholar. She also won the Local 1600 Union McBride Scholarship and the Friends of Harold Washington College Graduation Award. She was a leader in the community as an intern at MB Real Estate.

When asked to whom she owes her success in the City Colleges, she gave shout outs to her Rockstar College Advisor, Melissa McGlynn, her Accounting Professor, Emily Jurgens, her Speech Professor, Dan Cutter, the entire HWC Writing Center, the HWC Transfer Team, and to María González and Victor Abecassis from One Million Degrees!

When asked what inspirational advice she would give future HWC Rockstars, she said, "My advice to the current students at Harold Washington College is to never give up! Your dreams and ambitions are but small visions of what is to come for you in the future. Your hard work and dedication will pay off, so keep moving forward!"

This Flashback Friday post goes out to Phoebe Murtagh, a Harold Washington College and Olive-Harvey College Rockstar! She graduated from Harold Washington College with her Associate in Arts and transferred to Mount Holyoke College in Fall 2019 to major in Environmental Studies and minor in Political Science.

Phoebe was a leader on campus at HWC as a member of the Phi Theta Kappa Mu Pi Chapter and was a Presidential Scholar at CCC. She was the recipient of the Dempsey Travis CCC Foundation Scholarship and she won second place in the Sydney R. Daniels Oratorical Festival in Spring 2019.

She was also a leader in the community as a volunteer at 826CHI and as a Trained Leader with the Chicago Conservation Corps (C3).

When asked to whom she owes her success in the City Colleges she gave shout outs to Jill Murtagh (her mom), Nina Owolabi (her Rockstar Advisor), Ellen Goldberg (HWC Transfer Director) and to her awesome professors, Steven Burnett (History), Yolanda Duran (Art Professor at OHC), Ingrid Riedle (Polticial Science), Ed Butler (Political Science), Jenny Armendarez (Speech Professor and coach for the festival), and to Wayne Marko (Geology).

When asked what words of inspiration she would give future HWC Rockstars, she quoted Oscar Wilde and said, "You can never be overdressed or overeducated."

This Transfer Tuesday post goes out to Rudy Cordero, a Harold Washington College and Truman College Rockstar! He graduated from Harold Washington College with his Associate of Science Degree and will be transferring to Yale University in Fall 2020 to double major in Math and Computer Science!

Rudy was a leader on campus at Harold Washington College as the Vice President of the Entrepreneurship Club, a participant in the Transfer Leadership Class (TLC) hosted by the HWC Transfer Center, and a winner of the Hilco Global Scholarship for 2 years. While enrolled in the City Colleges, he worked at a Chicago tech start up that was in the non-profit and finance industry.

When asked to whom he owes his success in the City Colleges, he gave shout outs to the following people: Jim Poole, Ellen Goldberg, David Richardson, Luke Belz, Randall Miller, Claire Stuart-Quintanilla, Edwin Whitfield, the HWC Library Staff and to his best friend, Elsa!

She is an international student from Mongolia who graduated from HWC in Spring 2019 with her Associate of Arts degree and transferred to Mount Holyoke College with an almost full-ride scholarship to major in Political Science!

Batgerel was a leader on campus as a member of the Phi Theta Kappa Mu Pi Chapter (PTK) and as a participant in the Transfer Leadership Class (TLC) hosted by the HWC Transfer Center! She also won the Local 1600 Union Scholarship!

When asked to whom she owed her success in the City Colleges, she gave shout outs to the following people: Jim Poole, a Volunteer for the Transfer Center, Xiaohua Liu (Chinese Professor), Jeffrey Howell (Math Tutor), Athir Mahmud (CIS), Edwin Etolue-O'chei (Biology), Dolores Ochoa (Architecture), and to Ellen Goldberg, the HWC Transfer Center Director!

When asked what inspirational quote she would tell future HWC Rockstars, she said, "Keep your GPA as high as possible! Your GPA defines how much scholarship money you will earn!"
