Our soldiers fight fearlessly for us, but as they return home, who fights for them?
As a retired US Army General, the challenges facing unsupported veterans who are beginning the difficult transition to civilian life hits close to home. Throughout active duty, we’re told again and again, “No one left behind.” Yet hundreds of thousands of veterans continue to suffer alone at the hands of their own trauma. Despite the best efforts of the Veterans Administration to reduce suicidal ideation among veterans, we still lose an estimated 21 veteran lives a day to su***de. When we leave a veteran feeling hopeless, we don’t honor our own ethos of “No one left behind.”
Our veterans deserve the opportunity to heal the hidden wounds of war, which is why I serve on the board of the David Lynch Foundation’s 21 to NONE® initiative. Through 21 to NONE®, thousands of veterans and their families have had the opportunity to learn Transcendental Meditation® and heal from the wounds of trauma, at no cost to them.
For many of us veterans, conventional trauma-focused treatment is ineffective and can even prevent long-term healing. TM is a unique, proven approach that doesn’t rely on negative stimuli or medication, but empowers veterans to overcome their trauma with meditation.
With Memorial Day just a few days away, we are proud to offer hope to veterans still searching for healing with the help of community members like you.
