Tell me I’m not the only one who has this student…

One of the biggest shifts in my teaching happened when I stopped asking: how can we teach this vocabulary? And started asking: how can I make this la gauge meaningful and understandable for my students?
That change led me to use stories, visuals, gestures and literacy activities. My students didn’t need more vocabulary lists, they needed more opportunities to connect language to meaning.
If you are for story-based resources that help students to acquire Spanish as a second language, and are engaging and comprehensible for novice learners, I’d love for you to try

I wish someone had told me this when I started teaching…
Try things. If they work, great. If they don’t, move on. That’s how you learn what works for you and your students. 🤍
But don’t try everything at once… that’s the fastest way to feel overwhelmed.
These are some of the high-frequency words I use DAILY in my Spanish class.
Instead of teaching long vocabulary lists, I focus on the words students actually need to communicate and recycle them in stories.
I also use colors to help students notice the patterns in the language:
🔵third person
🔴first person
Even the gestures change:
When the verb is in first person,
I point to myself so students connect the meaning with the structure visually and physically.
When we connect movement, repetition and stories, students begin to recognize these words naturally and use them with confidence.
The goal is not memorization, it’s comprehension and communication.
Save this reel and try these gestures with your classes!
Este juego ayuda a mis estudiantes a practicar el vocabulario de una historia antes de leerla.
Se mueven, reaccionan y escuchan la palabras muchas veces …y cuando llega el momento de leer, ¡ya entienden muchísimo!
Me encanta porque no solo aprendemos el vocabulario de la historia, sino que nos sirve como descansito mental.
Yo lo juego y adapto con varios temas… este es el de la primavera :)

Algunos mitos que hay cuando vamos a enseñar con Comprehensible Input.
¿Cuál me faltó?
Mis estudiantes aman este descanso mental que no requiere planeación y es súper divertido.

Al inicio de cada mes, escribo en el calendario los estudiantes que cumplen años en el calendario de de la clase.
El día del cumpleaños el estudiante elige un animal de la canasta, cantamos la canción y puede usar una pulsera durante toda la clase como forma de celebración.🤩
