Ted W. Love, MD Named Rush University Commencement Speaker 04/23/2026

Rush University is excited to announce that Ted W. Love, MD, former CEO of Global Blood Therapeutics, will serve as this year’s honorary speaker for its 54th Commencement Ceremony on May 2.

‌Love has a long and distinguished career in the biopharmaceutical industry. He led Global Blood Therapeutics from a pre-clinical startup into a multinational commercial business, and introduced a first-of-its-kind treatment for sickle cell disease.

🌟 Rush University continues to shine in the 2026 U.S. News and World Report Best Graduate School Rankings. The College of Nursing ranks No. 3 nationally in the Doctor of Nursing Practice category, with six DNP specialties in the top four. Four College of Health Sciences programs also earned top marks, including two in the top 10, and Rush Medical College was recognized among the nation’s best in research.

Rush University’s Warm Threads Initiative is targeting unmet needs and teaching students how to crochet for vulnerable populations. As they give back to the community, the students are also able to unwind.

“There’s a lot less thinking involved, and you kind of just get into a flow state,” JP Arios, Rush Medical College student, says. “People recognize that when you’re in a flow state, you’re more relaxed. Especially with medical school, you’re constantly thinking of so many different things — what’s coming up, what you have to do and what you didn’t do.”

Rush University’s Men in Nursing brought home hardware for the third consecutive year and fourth time overall at the American Association for Men in Nursing conference. Faculty advisors and members of the group reflect on all they have accomplished and how mentorship is paving the way for future generations of nurses.

“I have all these people that are helping me, providing me with leadership, supervision and guidance in what I want to do. I’m trying to help people who are newer in the organization in my own way,” said Mateo Rey, student vice president of Men in Nursing.
