Essay Contest
On May 18, 2022, Bronwson Council #1030 Knights of Columbus held their 58th annual Essay for the 7th and 8th grade students of St. Andrew’s school. The last two years we held the Essay contest virtually and we were very happy to return to an in-person contest in 2022. The topic for the 7th Grade was 'My Hero' and the topic for the 8th grade was 'This I Believe'. Congratulations to: 8th Grade - First place: Cecilia Roth, Second place: Giada Gambatese 7th Grade - First place: Ariana Harris, Second place: Ava Burns.
All 4 will have their names placed on the 3rd Essay Plaque, donated by the Trejo Family and located at St. Andrew school. Congratulations also to the following Essay Contest finalists.: 7th Grade - Grace Carbonara, Carolina Horenkamp, Marty Mannion; 8th Grade - Courtney Beatty, Maggie Bordes
Patty Meunprasittiveg.
All contestants received a KC Essay contest shirt, certificate, rosary ring and booklet, Tootsie Roll bank and a mystery classic book to share over the summer with the other contestants. The Knights of Columbus wish to thank Fr. Sergio Romo, Principal Allen Ackermann, Assistant Principal Sarah Casavechia and teachers Shanna Eley and Rhonda Petersen their help in making the Essay contest possible.
This was also Principal Ackermann’s final Essay contest as he is retiring at the end of the School year. We had heard that his retirement plans included visiting many of our national parks, and the Council presented him with a Guide book to the National parks, a field diary to log his adventures and a harmonica to play around the campfire. We have certainly seen the Essay contest grow and evolve over the last few years into a great opportunity for these young people to express their views and ideas. We can not thank Principal Ackermann enough for all of his wonderful support over the years of the Knights and his efforts toward helping us continue our 58 year tradition of the Essay contest. We will all certainly miss him and wish him all the best.
A big thank you also to Chairman Sir Knight Tony and Michelle Rodriguez for all their work on making the Essay contest a success each year.
The Essay contest provides a great experience for the students to showcase their writing abilities and express their thoughts and feeling in such a creative way. All the Essay were excellent and I’m always proud that the Knights can provide such a forum of expression for our young people.
