☀️AAC Summer Tip from our SLP Team☀️
Hot weather can impact AAC devices more than you might think! Direct heat and sunlight can cause devices to shut down, drain battery life faster, or affect screen responsiveness.🔥
Easy summer tip: Keep AAC devices in the shade whenever possible and avoid leaving them in hot cars or direct sunlight during outdoor activities.🏖️
Communication should stay accessible all summer long. 🫶🏻

Today marks the grand finale of our “LEEP Restaurant Week”, the result of weeks of hands-on learning, collaboration, and real world practice! 🍽️✨Throughout this experience, students explored every part of the restaurant world, from practicing how to order and exchange money as customers to learning important restaurant roles like host, server, busser, and chef. They planned menus, worked on budgeting skills, took a trip to Jewel for grocery shopping, and collaborated to cook and serve meals to one another.
This experience has created meaningful opportunities to build life skills, explore food in new ways, practice communication and teamwork, and gain confidence through hands on learning experiences.
We are so excited to host our very first Caregiver Restaurant Day this afternoon and celebrate all of the hard work that made this experience possible! 🎉⭐️🫶🏻

Last week, we celebrated Staff Appreciation Week by honoring the incredible team that makes LEEP/QLA such a special place. Our staff are truly at the heart of everything we do, and we are endlessly grateful for the care, creativity, patience, and passion they bring each and every day.
This week was made even more meaningful thanks to the overwhelming support from our amazing community. To our families, thank you for the thoughtful treats, generous gift cards, exciting prizes, and all the love you poured into celebrating our team. Your kindness and appreciation meant so much.
We are so lucky to have a community that shows up for one another the way ours does! 🫶🏻

A Pro-Tip from Allison, SLP!
“With the arrival of warmer weather, just a reminder that ear infections in children tend to increase during the summer due to heat, humidity, and allergies! Warm and humid weather can trap moisture in the ear canal behind earwax, creating an environment where bacteria can grow. Summer allergies and colds can also cause congestion and trap fluid behind the eardrum.
Something to keep in mind for our summer friends using headphones: try to take breaks and give the ear canal a chance to dry out to help prevent infection!”

It’s been a busy week working on life skills!
As part of our experiential learning program, students took a walking trip to Jewel-Osco to purchase supplies in preparation for Restaurant Week next week. From navigating the store to finding items, making choices, and checking out, every step was hands-on learning in action.
These are the moments where real-world practice turns into lasting skills and growing confidence ✨
