Review: Zomee Z1 by Zomee

One of the newer pumps on the market with a stronger suction that reaches about 260 mmHg. The nice thing about it is that it’s small, portable and light. It charges on a USB cable, which is an added bonus. ➕

It can be used for double pumping, but it can also work as a single pump. It has a closed system, which is very important for hygiene and preservation of the engine. It has valves with membranes, but it also fits ordinary duckbills that come with it as a spare. I personally prefer duckbills. It comes with 24mm and 28mm fl**ges and soft cushions for more comfortable pumping but these will be too big for most moms so I always recommend getting professionally sized. The bottles that come with teats are wide-neck like Avent and Spectra bottles, but this pump also comes with adapters that allow you to use narrow-neck bottles like Dr. Brown's or Medela. 🍼

It has an LED screen with a timer, the button that turns it on and off is right below, and the other 3 buttons are on the screen itself and work like a touch screen. The middle one is for switching from massage mode to expression mode and the other two are + and - to adjust the level. ⬆️⬇️

It has a massage mode that goes up to level 5 and is used to stimulate lactation at the beginning of a pump session. It also has an expression mode that has 9 levels and allows a wide enough range for most moms. The cycle frequency reminds me a lot of Baby Buddha because of that long pull but there’s not an option to change the cycle.

Many mothers praise it and I can see why. On amazon, its price is currently $84.95 which is not bad at all compared to competitors.

The first week of August is celebrated as World Breastfeeding Week. To many of you this is just another regular week, to moms who nurse every week is breastfeeding week but to moms who exclusively pump it can be a sting in the eye seeing all those nursing photos around. 🤱🏼

I am here to tell you this is your week too and you have every right to celebrate and be proud of yourself. Breastfeeding means feeding from the breast which is exactly what you are doing even though there’s no direct contact. Be happy that you can give your baby the best food in the world. 🍼

I agree that nursing can be hard until you get a hold of it but I swear pumping is much harder. Who hasn’t pumped doesn’t know how much time and sacrifice it requires, washing and sterilizing, worying about proper storage, being tied to the house, spending time with a pump instead with your baby…

So I give all my respect to exclusive pumpers, I know your strugles, I’ve been on that road and I can help you overcome many opstacles. 🤗

Happy world breastfeeding week and let the milk flow! 💦

Love,
Mama Pump. ❤️

📄Review: Motif Luna

This is a hospital grade pump pretty similar to Spectra S2. It's very gentle but very strong and reaches about 280 mmHg. It is a double pump but it can be used as a single pump, it has a night light but doesn't have a bottle holder like Spectra. The one I have has to be plugged in but they make a battery operated one as well. It's silent and light, has a nice vibration that a lot of moms like and it can empty your breasts thoroughly and gently so I know it is well used in the world.

Just like Spectra it has a massage mode with 5 levels of vacuum, but the cycles only go to a 60 whereas Spectra can reach to a 70. It also has 12 levels of vacuum in expression mode but the cycles only go to 50, and Spectra can go to 54. This is the main difference between them and sometimes it makes all the difference because some moms prefer a higher cycle.

Besides that they feel almost the same, they both have a closed system, same type of backflow protectors, same fl**ges, the bottles are interchangeable etc. I do prefer Lunas bottles over Spectra bottles because they have a nice gradual slope that is more compatible with nursing and a slower flow. I used these bottles with my baby, they are very soft and I definitely recommend them.

The pump comes with 24mm and 28mm fl**ges that are too big for most moms so I recommend getting Maymom fl**ges in your size that are compatible (if you are not sure what is your correct size hit me up for some fl**ge sizing :)).

Price on Amazon is about 180$ but it is also usually covered by insurance. You will not go wrong if you choose this pump. All in all I love Motif products and I will be doing more reviews on their other stuff.

Have you tried this pump? What are your thoughts? Feel free to write in the comments. :)

Breast milk is a live and dynamic substance. It changes its composition as your baby grows. 👶

In this picture you can see how your milk changes in different stages of your babies growth. 🍼

Your milk has everything that your baby needs in the first 6 months of life, and around that age you should start offering your baby solids to complement your milk. This is WHO official recommendation. ❗️

Remember this picture next time someone tells you that your milk is not good enough or it's just water after the age of 1. That is not true! ❌

In the second year of life breast milk contains:
29% energy needs
43% protein needs
36% calcium needs
75% vitamin A needs
76% folate needs
94% vitamin B12 needs
60% vitamin C needs

As you can see next to solids at this age your milk provides a bundle of benefits for your baby. ✅

WHO recommends breastfeeding your baby for 2 years or longer, as long as the mom and baby want. It is only your choice how long you will nurse or pump for your baby. ☝️

Why is breast milk so important?

👉because it has a unique composition that can't be replicated
👉because it has the magic power of adapting to your baby's needs
👉because it contains all the nutrients for the optimal growth and development of your baby in the first 6 months of life
👉because it's easier to digest than formula
👉because only breast milk contains antibodies and growth factors that impact the development of your baby's immune system and central nervous system
👉because it's free and easily available

Statistics say that children that are breastfed have less diseases and lower chances of developing obesity and diabetes.

Even a small amount has a lot of antibodies that help your baby fight off any harmful microorganisms. So it's not all or nothing when it comes to breast milk.

The benefits of breast milk are incomparable, and both WHO and UNICEF recommend breastfeeding your baby 2 years or more.

About 5-10 % of women are physically not able to produce enough milk for their babies, but most women don't have enough support or education about breastfeeding to keep going.

That's why only about 20% of babies are actually breastfed. That is a very low number.

Luckily there is formula which exists to compensate when breast milk is not available but nobody can deny that it is overly used.

Preserving breastfeeding is a mutual responsibility and all mothers who choose to breastfeed should be supported with knowledge and any equipment they might need.

Every mother also has the right to make an educated decision about her baby's nutrition. But we have to share facts and bust the myths about breastfeeding.

The struggle is real... 🥵

Are you worried that your milk won't adapt to your baby's needs if you are exclusively pumping?

Don't worry, your body knows exactly how long ago you had birth. It knows when your placenta detached.

Also having skin to skin contact with your baby and kissing your baby's head will transfer microorganisms into your body which will then produce milk rich in antibodies needed to fight of a virus or bacteria that is affecting your baby.

Did anybody ever tell you that if you are pumping doesn't mean that you are breastfeeding?

Your breasts make milk, your baby eats that milk therefore you are BREASTfeeding. And don't let anybody tell you otherwise.
