In our efforts to build spaces for writing community, weโ€™re excited to announce an Editing Cooperative writing retreat this summer!

Join us in the Hungarian countryside this June for a week of writing, sunshine, and relaxation.

Last year, people were able to get that difficult chapter written, plan a research proposal, index a book, all with delicious locally sourced food and drink provided and lots of nice trees to sit and daydream under (an important part of the writing process).

Check out more info in the comments, and get in touch if youโ€™re interested!

Do you have an article or chapter draft sitting around needing work?

Do you find it hard to get useful feedback on your writing?

Would you like a structured, collaborative environment to develop your writing?

Join our Developmental Editing Group this autumn!
24 September - 3 December 2025, 6-8pm BST/UTC

Every Wednesday evening for ten weeks we will meet to share our writing drafts, get collaborative feedback, and discuss academic writing at structural and linguistic levels.

Workshopping is commonly used in creative writing, but we find it works equally well in academic contexts - often this kind of editorial feedback is missing from supervision or peer review. Together we will break down the writing process and discuss language, structure, and style in a supportive, collaborative environment.

This is an excellent alternative to a 1:1 editing service - you will not only get the feedback you are looking for on one piece of writing but also learn skills that you can apply to others. It is a great way to overcome the fear of sharing your work and learn from your peers. It is also a great way to commit to finishing a piece of work by the end of the year!

Check out the link below to sign up - tiered pricing options available!

We have an exciting programme of workshops coming this autumn, starting with Finding your Authorial Voice with Panos Theodoropoulos.

Panos will share what he's learnt from his recent publication with Polity Press and his editorial work with Interregnum to show you how to write beautifully without sacrificing scientific rigour and complexity.

Sign up in the comments below. There are various payment options available, we hope you can join us online on 13 September!

We've all heard the "it's more of a comment than a question..." joke about people who monopolise academic spaces. But what does that rhetorical pattern say about how people, especially those whose English isn't their first language, use tools to gain confidence in academic spaces? Check out our newest newsletter on the topic in the first comment below (and come to our workshop about it on 27 March!)

Join us for our first workshop of the year!

Four Simple Steps to Structure

Thursday 27 February, 6-8pm UTC

This 2-hour workshop focuses on the four simple steps that lay at the heart of every academic argument to help you write more structured and focused texts.

Authors often reproduce common academic narrative structures without thinking about the argumentative structure. This results in texts where the main argument and takeaway get lost in the narration.

In this workshop, we will explore how thinking about how the argumentative structure of your text can make your argument more clear and direct.

Our newest post on writing advice is out!

One of the easiest ways to improve your argument in an academic text is to take some time to distinguish between its narrative and argumentative structures. This post looks at these structures, why they are important for academic writers, and suggests how to work with them in your writing. It also explains why many writers conflate them.

The link to the full text (with animations!) is in the comments below. We hope you find it useful!
