We’re a group of 30 clinical pharmacists from the University of Illinois Chicago. In August 2019, the State of Illinois passed Public Act 101-0278, requiring the establishment of an evidence-based, non-commercial education program for Medicaid prescribers consisting of web-based curriculum and academic educator outreach. As a result of this legislation, the Illinois Department of Healthcare and Fa

mily Services has partnered with the University of Illinois Chicago College of Pharmacy to provide drug information and academic detailing services through Illinois ADVANCE.

A major milestone in the world of pharmacy for Illinois!
The passage of HB4154 modernizes pharmacist licensure by removing the MPJE exam barrier and replacing it with an Illinois-specific law education and assessment program. This streamlines the path to practice while keeping patient care standards high!

A special recognition goes to Mary Moody, BSPharm, and Garth Reynolds, BSPharm, whose exceptional leadership, advocacy, and commitment were instrumental in advancing this legislation. 👏
Thank you to everyone who collaborated to strengthen our workforce and improve community care.

Worth the reshare!! Did you know? 💡 Illinois passed HB2189, taking a massive step forward for diabetes care and healthcare affordability! Illinois HB2189 protects patients by lowering the 30-day insulin cost-sharing cap from $100 down to $35. It also creates an urgent-need program for eligible residents with less than a 7-day supply.
Healthcare should be accessible, not a financial hardship. Spread the word and read the bill text here:https://ilga.gov/documents/legislation/103/HB/PDF/10300HB2189.pdf

“Keep your medications in a cool, dry place." It’s standard advice, but what does that actually look like for a patient in July? ☀️

To a patient, a "dry place" might mean the bathroom cabinet (the highest humidity room in the house), or "handy" might mean sitting on a sunny kitchen windowsill or left in a glove box during errands.
When counseling patients this month, try asking open-ended tracking questions instead of just giving instructions: 🗣️ "Where do your medications sit during the day?" 🗣️ "If you get your prescriptions by mail, how long do they usually sit on the porch?"

A quick 30-second conversation about daily habits can prevent an inhaler malfunction or a diminished response to insulin, birth control, EpiPens, or other medications, before it happens.

🧴 The FDA finalized a historic order approving bemotrizinol (BEMT) for OTC sunscreens in the U.S.!
The last time the U.S. got a brand-new sunscreen ingredient was 25 years ago.

Here is the quick breakdown on why this is a major win for summer skin safety:
• Double Duty: It provides broad-spectrum protection against both UVA and UVB rays. ☀️
• Skin Deep: It has very low levels of absorption through the skin into the body.
• Family Friendly: The FDA deems it generally safe and effective (GRASE) for adults and kids 6 months and older.

While BEMT has been used safely across Europe and other countries for decades, it’s the very first ingredient approved under a new, streamlined FDA process meant to bring global health innovations to the U.S. faster.

💬 Let’s see who is ready for summer: Drop a 🕶️ in the comments if you knew the U.S. sunscreen market was this far behind, or leave a comment 👇 if you’re excited to see this hit the pharmacy shelves!
