When my advanced piano students ask me about harmonizing and arranging techniques, they really want to know how to harmonize those melody notes that fall between the written chord symbols. We call those resulting harmonies passing chords. It is something jazz arrangers are very familiar with.

Being a blues and boogie fan all my life, I just spent the last month practicing this amazing American art form. Elements of the blues breathe soul into almost any musical genre I really like. After studying it for a while, I discovered how incredibly complex some of those blues rhythms are. So, I decided to create a little video about it with five progressive exercises for blues pianists. I think it can be used in jazz and Latin music just as well. I hope you enjoy it.
