The Alva, Oklahoma meteorite is classified and named!
New meteorite discoveries named after Alva, Oklahoma Capron resident and farmer Mark Schwerdtfeger found two unusual rocks on and near his farm in 2017. He found the first one in the spring of 2017 in his alfalfa field that looked suspiciously like a meteorite. He said it felt heavier than a normal rock, and it was attracted to a magnet. Christmas in July?
Rare fossil meteorites that fell to earth 470M years ago donated to Chicago Field Museum Once the collection is finished being catalogued, some of the larger pieces will be put on display at the museum.
