We're excited to welcome Cole Demro to the Flatts and Sharpe team as our new Brass and Woodwind Repair Technician! Cole is a graduate of the renowned Band Instrument Repair Program at Minnesota State College Southeast in Red Wing, Minnesota, one of the country's premier training programs for instrument repair. His expertise and passion for helping musicians keep their instruments performing at their best make him a fantastic addition to our team.

With Cole on board, we're thrilled to announce the return of our in house brass and woodwind repair services! Whether your instrument needs a quick adjustment, routine maintenance, or more extensive repairs, Flatts and Sharpe is once again your trusted destination for professional service. Congratulations to our Rogers Park Student of the Month, Chaohine C., a guitar student under James Weigel's instruction! Chaohine has impressed us with her maturity, dedication, and enthusiasm for learning. One of her recent accomplishments was learning to play and sing Landslide as a meaningful gift for a friend’s graduation, and she is currently working on Maine by Noah Kahan.

In addition to her guitar studies, Chaohine has recently performed with both her school choir and dance troupe at school functions, demonstrating her love of music and performance. She enjoys contemporary R&B, with Frank Ocean as one of her favorite artists, while also appreciating classics like Blackbird by The Beatles.

Chaohine approaches every new song with patience and determination, breaking challenging pieces into smaller sections and practicing them until they feel natural. Her goal is to become faster and more confident at learning the music she loves, and we look forward to seeing her continued growth. Congratulations, Chaohine!

Congratulations to our Norwood Park Student of the Month, Josie L., a violin student under Cathie's instruction! Josie's musical journey is especially inspiring. After teaching herself the violin through online resources, she joined Flatts and Sharpe to further develop her technique. She is now progressing through the Suzuki method and is currently working on a violin arrangement of Children Will Listen from Into the Woods.

Josie has a deep appreciation for music, especially classical, folk, and Broadway, and her natural musicality shines through in every lesson. In addition to her violin studies, she performs with the youth orchestra, sings with Uniting Voices, and even performs with her dad's rock band, Sensational Gnus. Her passion for music extends well beyond the lesson room.

What makes Josie stand out is her remarkable work ethic and innate musical ability. She has a strong sense of pitch, approaches every challenge with curiosity, and is always eager to learn new music, whether it's assigned in lessons or something she's discovered on her own. We're proud of all she's accomplished and can't wait to see where her musical journey takes her next.

One of our F&S staff went to the Chicago History Museum, and noticed a cool piece of history that we also happen to be selling at the Rogers Park shop!

This is The Numark PPD DM1775A. The first Digital Sampler of it's kind. It was an all in one package with a preamp, mixer, and the ability to sample and edit on the fly to create live beats with nothing but turntables spinning vinyl's. Came out in the late 80's and was integral in the creation of House music in Chicago!
