Carl West, a publisher, editor, CEO, father, and mentor shares a personal reflection on coming of age on the Southside of Chicago. His experiences are central to his new book, The Power of Mentoring, and drives his ongoing efforts to help the next generation avoid the challenges he once faced.
West's story shows whatโs possible when a young person has guidance, accountability, and a community that refuses to give up on its youth.
COAL is honored to host Carl D. West, Chairman and CEO of MG Media at the May Power Breakfast, with the conversation moderated by David Day, Chairman of 100 Black Men of Chicago.
Please join us for an important conversation on guiding and supporting our youth.

Our children deserve a quality education. It is a fundamental right. A quality education provides the foundational tools that expand opportunities for our youth to build good lives for themselves, for their family, and for their community.
This requires leadership of our school systems committed to and capable of providing an educational environment that leads to a quality education for all of our children.
COAL is honored to host Sean Harden, President of the Chicago Board of Education, for its May 17th Coalition Power Breakfast. Please join us for a important conversation with someone who can significantly impact the state of education, here in Chicago.
Respectfully,
COAL Board of Directors
