Department of Romance Languages & Literatures at University of Chicago We offer graduate programs in French, Hispanic and Luso-Brazilian Studies, and Italian.
The Department of Romance Languages and Literatures embraces multiple disciplinary and linguistic traditions reflecting the theoretical diversity of our fields. We also provide a number of configurations for undergraduate study, including majors and minors in the languages, literatures, and cultures of Italy, France and the Francophone world, and Iberia and Latin America.

The ARTFL Project is pleased to announce the Computational Approaches to Eighteenth-Century Studies Symposium, taking place at the David Rubenstein Forum on June 4–5, 2026. The program spans digital humanities, intellectual history, and literary studies.

Gabriella Ghermandi is a singer, performer, novelist and short-story writer, who uses storytelling and live performance to reach diverse audiences and foster mutual empathy. She was born and raised in Addis Ababa to an Italian father and Ethiopian mother. She later relocated to Bologna, Italy. Ghermandi is also the creator and lead singer of The Atse Tewodros Project, an artistic collaboration between Ethiopian and Italian musicians.
