We are devastated at the news of the death of a five-year-old boy at a Pilsen migrant shelter this past Sunday. Please see the link below for an article covering the tragedy.

At Lilac House we are working to create strong, free-thinking, independent and community focused children who will grow to advocate for and align themselves with those whose needs may be different from theirs. Those who need to be lifted up and given space where there is none. Those who may have a completely different human experience, but who still deserve the space and time to be human.

Recently there has been too much neglect and violence towards children in our world. Not only in our community with this tragedy and the general housing and safety crisis of asylum seekers in Chicago, but also with the genocide that is occurring in Palestine. No child deserves this kind of pain. Children brought into this world deserve the opportunity to grow and live full lives. To be a part of a family, a community, and to see all the beauty and wonder that the world does have to offer. This beauty feels a little hard to see right now, but it is there.

We take our jobs very seriously at Lilac House, and are working on finding ways to better support all children whose basic needs and rights are not being met. The immediate need we see is fever reducing medicine, cough medicine, anti diarrhea and calamine lotion for children and families who may be living in shelters or temporary housing and not have access to these supplies. Please consider donating new, unopened medications, or Zelle our school account and we will purchase medication for those in need.

At lilac house we are also always accepting gently used clothes for children of all ages, especially winter gear at the moment. We distribute clothes to families in our programs and nearby.

We are gearing up for the new school year, and our friend here is working on tracing site words in the sand then filling them in with beads. They also wanted to sort the beads by color pairs, a great early math skill!

If you are interested in before or after school care, don't hesitate to reach out. We will work with you and your child on homework and help build on the skills they will already be learning in the classroom.

At ​Lilac House we believe in extended outdoor play time and getting messy. We love painting the inside of our outdoor club house and spending as much time with paint as possible!

Hello! It's been a minute since we have posted. We have been busy growing friendships, houses, plants and so much more at the Lilac House. Our garden is thriving and the children in our program have been getting creative with their play structures inside and out.

We currently have few spaces available for the 2023-2024 school year starting August 1st. Schedule an enrollment meeting today!
