🇫🇷 The "ne explétif" is a stylistic feature in French grammar that serves no grammatical or semantic purpose. It does not negate the verb it accompanies. Instead, it adds a formal or literary tone to a sentence. It's often used with certain verbs, expressions, or conjunctions, particularly in subordinate clauses, where it helps emphasize or refine the meaning of the sentence.

👉 Key Points to Remember:
Not Negative: Unlike the "ne...pas" construction, the "ne explétif" does not negate the verb. The sentence remains positive unless there is another negating word (like "pas").

👉 Stylistic Use: It is optional and more common in formal or literary French. It is rarely used in casual speech.

👉 Triggers: The "ne explétif" appears after certain verbs, conjunctions, and expressions that imply doubt, fear, prevention, or certain comparisons.

Pour celles et ceux qui ne me connaissent pas encore, je suis Alexandra et je suis originaire de . Je suis née à Paris où j'ai vécu plus de 20 ans. Je vis désormais à Chicago où je me suis avec ma famille depuis 6 ans. Bien que j'adore les États-Unis, je pense sans cesse à ma ville de naissance, à mes longues promenades et à mes découvertes quotidiennes: boutiques, librairies indépendantes, restaurants… Paris ne cesse d'étonner et d'émerveiller les Parisiens et touristes. Ces tableaux conservés à l'Art Institute de sont une invitation au tourisme des yeux. Lequel est votre préféré ? 1, 2 ou 3 ?

🇺🇸 Did you know? Each New Year’s Eve, the Champs-Elysées in Paris has a traditional firework show and lights up the Arc de Triomphe with its famous New Year's Eve countdown!
This is one of the highlights of New Year’s Eve in Paris and although the celebration was canceled in 2021 due to COVID-19, the fireworks show and countdown at the Champs-Elysées will be returning this year!

🇪🇨 ¿Lo sabías? Cada Nochevieja, los Campos Elíseos de París ofrecen un tradicional espectáculo de fuegos artificiales e iluminan el Arco del Triunfo con su famosa cuenta atrás de Nochevieja. Este es uno de los momentos más destacados de la Nochevieja en París y, aunque la celebración se canceló en 2021 debido al COVID-19, ¡el espectáculo de fuegos artificiales y la cuenta atrás en los Campos Elíseos volverán este año!
