Children experience all the same emotions as adults, but they aren’t yet equipped with the tools to handle those feelings. The first step toward understanding their big feelings is helping them learn how to recognize and name their emotions. At The Goddard School Chicago (West Loop) we like asking open-ended questions like “What is something that makes you happy or sad?” or “Can you show me what face you make when you are happy, sad or angry?” This gives children the opportunity to share their emotions and show what they know about them. This exercise had Goddard students using emojis to identify each emotion in honor of World Emoji Day. 😊😕😆😥😴 Give it a try with your little one!
