“The Zone of Interest” was nominated for five Academy Awards, including Best Picture; and it won two of them (Best International Feature and Best Sound).
But there are problems with the movie’s messaging and its historical accuracy. We’re going to unpack some of these problems, starting with one of the most serious in this post: was Rudolf Höss, the first Commandant of Auschwitz, really just an “ordinary person,” as writer-director Jonathan Glazer would have us believe?
